A NEW house in Broadway which objectors warned would set a precedent for development has been refused planning permission.
Members of Wychavon District Council's development control committee overturned their officers' recommendation and refused permission to demolish stables and build a new house in a courtyard at the back of 117 High Street.
Broadway parish council, the highways partnership unit and 11 individuals from the village all objected to the proposal.
The Broadway Trust warned that approval would set a precedent for development in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
It added that approval would also affect the conservation area around Broadway.
The Cotswold Way National Trail Office also highlighted safety concerns to walkers because part of the access to the proposed house was a public footpath which would soon have National Trail status and become a flagship route on the network.
