Holmes rescues

From the archive, first published Wednesday 7th Dec 2005.

Gloucester III 2,

Blockley Ladies 2

BLOCKLEY found themselves up against keen and energetic opp-onents who pressurised the visitors and opened the scoring after a defe-nsive blunder.

The Cotswolds side regrouped and upped their pace with Hayley Whitehouse passing to Sally Holmes, who levelled before half-time.

The game flowed from end to end in the second half with Gloucester taking the lead again when a fluke strike found the back of the net.

Determined to retain their unbeaten record, Blockley made several attacks towards the home circle and were rewarded when another excellent pass from Whitehouse allowed Holmes to net again.

The two-goal star was named joint player of the match alongside Jo Peachey for her persistent hard work in midfield.
