LONGBOROUGH residents have put the final touches to their campaign against proposed post office closures, which also threaten the village shop.
Harry Taylor, chairman of the village shop committee, held a meeting this week to finalise a long-running campaign which has seen residents send more than 1,000 protest letters to Post Office Minister Jim Fitzpatrick.
North Cotswold MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown visited the venue in November to give his backing to the campaign.
The committee has completed a questionnaire sent out by the DTI as part of the consultation process on closures.
"The questionnaire was attached to a 40-plus page document and read like an A-level examination question," said Mr Taylor. "The DTI consultation process is designed to deter responses. Our post office is the heart of the community. Once closed it will never reopen, and if it closes, the shop won't be viable."
The consultation process ends on March 8.
