Brain training pays dividends for Swifts

From the Cotswold Journal, first published Tuesday 12th Feb 2008.

Chipping Norton Tn Swifts U-13 3, North Leigh 3

LEWIS Brain was in outstanding form for Chippy who were unlucky not to take all three points.

North Leigh opened the scoring but the lead was shortlived as Brain fired in a brilliant free-kick from 25 yards to make it 1-1.

The same player then struck a post with another sweetly-struck drive before Swifts fell behind to a dead-ball strike at the other end.

The sides were all-square early in the second half when Brain bagged his second of the game and he then completed his hat-trick with an exquisite lob.

However, the visitors didn't give up and snatched an equaliser in the final minute to deny the hosts maximum points.

Chipping Norton Tn Swifts U-10 4, Kings Sutton 1

MATTY Lewis opened the scoring following a fine pass from player of the match Abie Bailey and it was 2-0 when Dan Newman netted for confident Chippy.

However, Kings halved the arrears but Newman fired in his second to make it 3-1 before Newman completed his hat-trick to cap a fine individual display.

Hook Norton U-10 1, Launton Boys 0

TOM Dawson headed in the only goal of a fabulous game that saw Launton's unbeaten eight-match sequence brought to an end.

Fresh from victory over leaders Highfield the previous week, the visitors started in confident mood but a terrific team effort from the Hooky boys brought them a famous scalp.

The deciding goal arrived in the first half when Sam Pougatch sent over a superb cross that was met by striker Dawson and the ball ended up in the back of the Launton net.

Goalkeeper Alex Bull produced some excellent first half saves behind a solid defence in which George Stapleton and Austin Rudd were in fine form.

Launton went all out for an equaliser in the second half but again were unable to penetrate a Hooky rearguard that fought gallantly to hang on to its slender advantage.
