Five more goals in second warm-up walloping

From the Cotswold Journal, first published Saturday 19th Jul 2008.

EVESHAM United made it ten goals without reply in two friendly matches after this afternoon's 5-0 thrashing of Malvern Town.

Paul West used 21 different players with only Dave Adey lasting the 90 minutes.

The goalkeeper made three decent stops - two in the first half and one in the second - during a match that the Robins controlled from the first whistle.

Danny Scheppel's sweet volley from Simon Fitter's 14th minute cross opened the scoring and it was 2-0 after 25 minutes when Daniel Lennon looped a far post header over Craig Humphries from Gary Hay's cross.

More chances came and went and Hay had two chances after the break when 22 minutes had elapsed before United's third goal.

It came from Leon Woodley who had only been on the pitch seven minutes when he linked up superbly with Liam McDonald.

Ryan Thomas put the ball into his own net when Scheppel tried to lay the ball into Paul Bonar's path 19 minutes from time and the scoring was complete after 75 minutes when half-time substitute and former Romulus man Michael Batchelor capped a fine display with a thumping header from Tom Etheridge's corner.

Striker Jermaine Clarke was unable to play with the club still awaiting his registration from the League of Wales but manager West said he could play a part at Willenhall on Friday (7.45) as he is set to attend traning sessions on Monday and Wednesday.
